Located 308 km northeast of Tahiti, Tikehau is a small atoll, part of the Rangiroa commune, with a surface area of 20 km2. Surrounded by an almost continuous coral reef, its main village is called Tuherahera. Its oval lagoon is 27 km long and 19 km wide. The atoll is made up of two main islands encircled by numerous motus of white and pink sand covered with coconut palms. Divers of all levels will be fascinated by the beauty and abundance of marine life: eagle rays, grey sharks, turtles, dolphins and fish of all kinds live in perfect tranquillity in this unspoilt environment. In fact, the volume of fish here is so great that Tikehau was named -the most abundant atoll in the Tuamotu Islands- during a study carried out in 1987 by the famous Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his team.
